Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and lived at home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam Her mother, who was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, old, her father landed in the role of curator at Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family was able to move into the landmark historical building. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan started singing in children's chorus in the contralto position, later she joined the adult choir just a couple of years afterwards. Sullivan had limited exposure to secular music. The singer recalls that she was singing as a soloist in the church, when someone offered to sign her up with a gospel label. She wasn't ready for the work. "Then the time came that McDonald's had a competition for youngsters in the major cities I had the opportunity to sing 'Accept What God Gives' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience responded really well". Stevie Wonder sang her part during her grandsons 13th birthday party. Sullivan signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was fifteen. As a teenager the label signed her to Jive Records. The label recorded an whole album at Jive Records, however the album wasn't released. Sullivan was eventually removed from the label. Her work had been in good partnership along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her such as "Backstabbers", which was produced by Timbaland.
